"Vince:
Played the LP all night last night at my gig. Wow, it really sounded great and played nice too. I got a lot of complements on the overall tone.
Stay in touch.
Tadd"

I am amazed by your experiences in guitar collection. I was following your blog ananymously for a while.
I studied and worked in Pittsburgh, PA for 9 years, and move back to Taiwan in 2001. I am teaching in a university. I started to learn guitar 2 years ago and loved it. I have 2 electric guitars (one squier, one fender highway one), one acoustic guitar, and one 5-strings bass.
I have a question for you: I like Gibson Les Paul very much. Since I am just a starter, I have not been able to appreciate the tone of a real Gibson, but I found Gibson craftsmanship is superier to Epiphone (during my visit to Guitar Center in San Diego this spring). My question is : should I buy a US$500 Epiphone and play around, or I should save the money to get a Gibson. If Gibson is the choice, should I get a Studio, or save more money for a Les Paul Standard or higher? Money is not the problem, the problem is that I am still a starter and my beloved wife thinks it could be a waste of money to get a real real Gibson (although she also thinks Gibson Les Paul is pretty).
Can you give me some advice? thank you very much
Eason
ps. I am visiting Chicago for a business meeting in early Sep. I am not sure if it is a lot trouble to visit Naperville Guitar to see your friend/store manager. The venue is around Lombard (IL 60148-5096) area. I can ask the sponsor to drive me around. thanks again
Thanks for your posting.
The best way to decide is to play both Epiphones and Les Pauls youself and decide. If you are a young player with a limited budgt , I would say a Epiphone is good enough. If you can afford, I would suggest getting US made Les Pauls. Personally, I like Les Paul Standard. But tone and playability are the main things.
I will be happy to meet with you at Naperville Guitar in early September. I will be out of town after 9/10. Any weekdays day or evening is fine with me. Naperville Music closes on Friday and Sunday and I have band practice every Saturday from 11:00Am to 4:00PM. Not sure they are open on Labor Day (9/6). Try to avoid those dates.
Mike is a very good friend and he will give you an excellent deal if you decide to buy one. I would suggest to consider US made guitars, I heard they are more expensive in Taiwan.
Have a safe trip.
Best,
Vincent
BTW, There will be a folk guitar festival in Geneva from 9/4 - 9/6. The festival is organized by my friend Jueld. I will be there probably on Sunday. Geneva is only 30 minuites from Lombard. See my other artical about this event.

I played both Gibson and Epiphone at Guitar Center in San Diego. Tonewise I have no much different feels, maybe, because of the noise environment. However, I found American craftmanship is excellent compared to the Epiphone. I would go for the Gibson just because of that!
Can you send me an email? I think I might be able to meet with you and Mike at Naperville Music on 9/2 (Thu) evening. I wish to discuss the details with you and Mike. Thanks
eason
Sure, Eason. E-mail sent. I deleted and reposted your reply as I don't want to publicize your e-mail address.
Mike will have 20+ LP for you to try.
See you,
Vincent
